About the ArtThe design of the sole tells a symbolic story rooted in Indigenous teachings. A circle, representing the unity of life energy, is divided to reflect balance—man and woman, mother and father, the spirit world and the physical world. Flowing lines stretch across the sky, symbolizing the energy that moves through all living beings. A turtle swims toward the prairie grasses, a nod to the sustenance they have long provided. This imagery draws from the legend of Turtle Island, the land formed when a small clump of soil on Turtle’s back grew into what is now North America. The markings on the turtle’s shell echo the cycles of the moon, connecting the story to the rhythm of nature.
