Code Red Bearded Iris

Iris germanica 'Code Red' (Tall Bearded Iris) is an eye-catching variety with its rich cranberry red color and heavily ruffled falls and standards. The saturated, single-color blooms create a striking impact in both borders and bouquets, and look stunning when planted en masse or paired with complementary multicolor varieties. Deer and rabbit resistant, this easy-care Bearded Iris will bring a smile to visitors. Plant in well-draining soil in a sunny spot with the tops of the rhizomes even with the soil level. Keep moist until established but be careful not to over water. Use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to encourage strong growth and lots of flowers, but don’t overdo it as too much fertilizer can lead to weak growth. Deadhead spent blooms to keep the plant looking tidy and encourage more flowers, and trim the foliage back to about 3-4 inches above the ground in late summer.
